Parliamentary Committee: Final version of the National Day Law

The Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Media announced that the final version of the National Day Law is close to being completed for voting. The head of the committee, Farouk Hanna Atto, explained to Al-Sabah that "the committee has completed some important laws, most notably the second amendment to the Iraqi Media Network Law No. (26) of 2015, as amended, which was submitted for inclusion in the agenda for voting, in addition to the Right to Information Law and the remaining issues of auditing and legislative drafting," noting that "the National Day Law is facing objections from some blocs and is still under discussion, and its version is nearing completion in the coming weeks."
Hanna added that "the other draft laws that were discussed on the committee's table and due to their great importance, will be submitted for the first reading. These are the draft law of the Media and Communications Commission, the law of developing the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the law of protecting cultural diversity, in addition to the law of preserving cultural heritage and the draft amendment to the law of the Ministry of Culture, and the law of intellectual property, which the committee is currently continuing its first reading, in addition to other draft laws that are taking their turn in the discussions." He pointed out that his committee "worked on developing an integrated plan to legislate a number of important laws, and focused most of its attention on studying drafts of draft laws sent by the government, as well as proposals for some laws, some of which need to be amended and others need to be legislated due to their actual need and can serve citizens and institutions alike."
