    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Sunday (November 10, 2024), the spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Al-Khaza’i, confirmed that the ministry, in coordination with the Economic Council, was able to overcome the stage of rising prices of vegetables and meat.
Al-Khazai said in a statement to Baghdad Today that "the ministry succeeded in implementing a strict policy that contributed to the stability of meat prices," noting that "the rise in tomato prices in the markets is due to the end of the local cultivation season in all governorates, which prompted the opening of the door to importing this crop, and it is expected that the market will return to stability in the coming days."
As a result of the rise in meat prices, the Iraqi Ministerial Council for Economy decided last March to reduce customs duties on imported livestock and sheep by 50% for one year.
It was preceded by the Iraqi government’s decision last February to open the door to importing sheep and calves after a 20-year hiatus, with the aim of addressing the crisis of rising meat prices and providing them to citizens at reasonable prices.
