Amnesty International has called for an international investigation into the case in a stop for its activists organized near the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on the 100th anniversary of the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Amnesty International's campaign officer in Turkey, Gokso Oz Ahshali, stressed that the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi should be subject to international investigation.
"As activists in Amnesty International and human rights defenders, we demand justice for Khashoggi, who has raised his voice for freedom of expression in the Arab world," Oz Ahshali read in a statement issued by the organization's branch.
"The body of Khashoggi, who was brutally murdered, was not found. For this reason, and on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, we symbolically changed the name of the street where Khashoggi appeared last time and we called him Jamal Khashoggi. Through this symbolic action, we renew our demands for justice in the killing of Khashoggi ', stressing that' the crime committed before the eyes of the world should be subject to international investigation '.
"Amnesty International once again calls for an independent UN investigation into Khashoggi's killing, torture, crimes and abuses related to the murder," she said, describing Saudi Arabia's investigations as "formal".
"Khashoggi's death brought the entire world's attention to Saudi Arabia and Prince Mohammed bin Salman," Amnesty International's regional official said. "We do not believe that the Saudi authorities who have opened an immediate investigation into the murder will have a fair and credible trial."
Saudi Arabia has also been accused of practicing injustice, repression and human rights violations, adding that "what Khashoggi has discovered reveals to what extent the Kingdom has reached its violations of rights."
