South Korea and the United States will hold a "Tonman 2-19" military exercise as planned, South Korean Defense Ministry spokeswoman Tseo Hyun-soo said Thursday. Despite a warning issued by North Korea, stressing that this action may lead to the destruction of US-North Korean talks on the nuclear issue.

The Tunman 2-19 exercises are scheduled to take place in August. Replacing the former "Ulci Freedom Guardian" maneuvers, which Pyongyang considered a prelude to war against North Korea.
The North Koreans are still concerned about the joint US-South Korean exercise under the new title of "Tunman", literally meaning "alliance." The initial exercises under this heading took place in March this year, instead of the Ki Reesulf and the Fugal exercises.
"The training will take place," South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted Tseo Hyun-soo as saying. However, the South Korean Defense Ministry has not released official data on its Web site.
On the other hand, the leaders of the United States and North Korea agreed at the third North American summit meeting in Korea's demilitarized zone on June 30 to hold working talks to find a solution to the nuclear issue as soon as possible.
