Chairman of the [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/221/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%86%D8%B2%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%A9 %D8%A7%D9%84%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A9]Parliamentary Integrity[/url] Committee Hisham al-Suhail called for the presidency of the Council of Representatives to amend the rules of procedure of the Council, noting: "Many parliamentary committees are disabled because of the rules of procedure."
Al-Suhail said in a press statement: "The chairmanship of the committees of integrity, security, defense and education, have forms and objection because of the failure of their superiors to obtain an absolute majority."
He added: "Article (74) of the rules of procedure of the House of Representatives speaks of obtaining a candidate for the chairmanship of the Committee plus one half of the number of members of the Committee, and this has not been achieved within a number of parliamentary committees."
He stressed the need to amend the rules of procedure during the next legislative term so that committees and members of the House of Representatives exercise their oversight role.
