[ltr]The Commissioner of the High Commission for Human Rights, Jumaili Unit, confirmed that the amended Personal Status Law contradicts the constitutional provisions that protect women's dignity and protect the rights of citizens from the point of view of their humanity and preserve their national identity.[/ltr]
[ltr]"In accordance with the duties and duties of the High Commission for Human Rights and the judge to take over the study and evaluation of the legislation in force and the extent of conformity with the Constitution and submit its recommendations to the House of Representatives, we would like to show that the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law approved by the House of Representatives of The principle represents a real setback and a decline in ensuring the protection of human rights because it was based on the origin of article (41) of the constitution, which stipulates (freedom of commitment to personal status), which is controversial and placed within the framework of amending the articles of the constitution as it strikes the national identity, By resorting to sub-identities and renouncing national identity. "[/ltr]
[ltr]She added that "the amendment of the law of the situation was based on the jurisprudential opinions of the Sunni and Shiite positions in the conduct of personal status of citizens away from the judiciary and this is a blatant interference in the work of the judiciary and contrary to the principle of separation of powers."[/ltr]
[ltr]She pointed out that "we recorded our objection to the proposal to amend the law of the situation and we will submit it to the House of Representatives on the basis that the original law is one of the finest laws that preserves personal status and that the amendment contradicts the constitutional articles that preserve women's dignity and reserves the citizen's rights in terms of humanity and preserve its national identity."[/ltr]
[ltr]The House of Representatives in its meeting on Tuesday, voted on several proposals and decisions, including the proposed amendment of the Personal Status Law, No. (188) for the year 1959 and submitted by the committees of law and endowments and religious affairs, women, family and childhood.[/ltr]
