    BAGHDAD -
A group of militants detained 1,300 local hostages in two villages in the eastern Indonesian province of Boabua, police said.
"Militants have not allowed the residents of the villages of Timbagapura and Mimika Regency, in Papua, to leave them since Tuesday," Anatolia news agency quoted regional police chief Boy Ravley Ammar as saying.
He continued: "They stole the population, and there are reports of rape and shooting at ambulances."
"The armed group has been active since 2012, consisting of 20 to 25 people," the Indonesian news agency Kompas.com quoted the country's police chief, General Tito Carnavian, as saying. "The militants are holding residents of the villages to avoid police arrest. "He said.
In the same context, Indonesian military commander General Jatut Normanteo, the separatist Free Papua Organization, accused the hostages.
"They will not let people leave the villages, because the security forces are about to launch a military operation in the region," local media quoted Ceby Samboom, a spokesman for the Free Patriotic Movement of Western Papua, the armed wing of the Free Papua Organization, as saying.
