South Korea's annual exports reached 500 billion dollars this year thanks to strong sales of memory chips and petrochemical products, the Ministry of Commerce said Sunday.
Total shipments to Asia's fourth-largest economy totaled $ 501.2 billion as of 2 pm on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, this index was reached in the shortest time since the relevant data were collected as of 1956.
With imports rising to $ 416 billion in 2017, the total trade volume is expected to exceed 1 trillion won this year, the ministry said.
Active sales in semiconductors, petrochemicals and steel have stimulated growth, while shipments to major trading partners including China, Southeast Asia and India have increased.
