    [ltr]Follow up of Mawazine News[/ltr]
[ltr]WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump is expected to extend the economic sanctions law to Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal, US officials said on Thursday.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Associated Press quoted six US officials as "insiders" on the matter, saying that Trump had indicated progress in amending US law, which obliges Washington to agree on a nuclear deal.[/ltr]
[ltr]If Trump extended Washington's decision to ease sanctions on Iran under the nuclear deal, it could impose new sanctions on Iranian companies and personalities, officials said.[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump had previously announced that he was seeking to amend that law "or cancel the agreement".[/ltr]
[ltr]The officials, who preferred not to be identified, said Trump had not yet made a final decision.[/ltr]
[ltr]They said "heated discussions" were being held on this issue between administration officials and prominent Republican lawmakers.[/ltr]
[ltr]According to The Associated Press, Trump must decide by Friday to either extend the lightened sanctions on Iran's central bank or reinstate the restrictions imposed by former President Barack Obama two years ago.[/ltr]
[ltr]In return, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that Iran was committed to the international agreement.[/ltr]
[ltr]In October, Trump threatened to withdraw from the deal "if the US Congress and Washington's allies fail to address its flaws," threatening to impose "harsh sanctions" on Tehran[/ltr]
