Baghdad/Al-Masala: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that his country is close to ending the mission of the US-led international coalition in Iraq, noting that Iraq in 2024 is completely different from Iraq in 2014.
This statement came within the framework of Al-Sudani's dialogue with Bloomberg Agency, where he explained that the justifications for the presence of the international coalition in the country no longer exist, and that Iraq has passed the stage of wars and moved to the stage of stability.
Al-Sudani stressed in his speech that ISIS no longer poses a threat to the Iraqi state, which prompted the Iraqi government to enter into a frank dialogue with the international coalition and form a bilateral committee to organize the withdrawal of foreign forces. He pointed out that the announcement of the end of the coalition's mission will be made soon.
Despite the withdrawal of coalition forces, Al-Sudani explained that relations between Iraq and the United States will not end, but rather move towards building sustainable partnerships in the fields of security, economy and culture.
He also revealed Iraq's intention to participate in the international conference of the coalition against ISIS, stressing that Iraq will deal with any upcoming US administration, and pointing out that Iran plays a supportive role in the Iraqi political process and in the efforts to combat terrorism, which makes Iraq the only country in the region that enjoys good relations with both the United States and Iran.
On the oil front, Al-Sudani stressed that Iraq is committed to reducing its oil production in accordance with OPEC agreements, with a focus on maintaining a balance between the interests of producers and consumers. Regarding the oil export crisis via Turkey, he explained that Iraq faces two options: amending contracts concluded with contracting companies in the Kurdistan Region, or amending the budget law, which requires political consensus.
Al-Sudani also pointed out that the agreement between Baghdad and Washington in the last round of dialogue includes the United States' commitment to developing Iraqi security capabilities, while Baghdad is committed to protecting American diplomatic personnel and facilities and coalition forces on Iraqi territory.
