[ltr][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]BAGHDAD - The office of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Saturday denied the authenticity of a Lebanese newspaper report on a prime minister's decision to provide Iraq with the Lebanese army and its military equipment free of charge.
"There is no truth to the reports that Iraq will provide the Lebanese army with fuel sources free of charge," Saad al-Hadithi, a spokesman for Ebadi's media office, told a news conference.
"Iraq can sell the oil to Lebanon and it buys, but Iraq supplies the Lebanese army with free fuel, a gift or a grant, which is not true," he said.
Al-Hadithi stressed that "there is no agreement between the two sides of this kind at all."
The Lebanese daily Al-Diyar reported earlier Saturday that "as part of the decision to help Iraq to Lebanon, Prime Minister Abadi decided to launch an initiative that will soon arrive in Beirut and may have reached that Iraq will provide the Lebanese army with all the expenses of gasoline, Energy for all the Lebanese army's military vehicles from tanks, trucks and troop carriers, in addition to the amount of gasoline that is paid to the elements of the Lebanese army officers and others. "
The newspaper added that "an Iraqi oil tanker will come every two months and pour into the refineries of Tripoli and in its tanks the amount of gasoline, diesel and energy for the Lebanese army to get some of the abundance in the budget of the Ministry of Defense and the Lebanese army."
