Israeli planes raided targets inside Syria after a fighter fell, while sirens sounded on the occupied Golan Heights and Upper Galilee in northern Israel on Saturday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would immediately convene security consultations with the embattled government following developments with Syria
. Syrian state television said three huge blasts occurred in the countryside of Damascus as a result of Israeli raids.
He explained that the Syrian air defenses dealt with the aircraft.
On the other hand, sirens sounded in the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee in northern Israel, apparently in anticipation of firing rockets from Syrian territory.
The incidents came after Syrian ground fire dropped an Israeli fighter F-16, but crashed on the Israeli side, while the pilots survived.
"The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted Iranian control systems in Syria that launched a drone for Israeli airspace ... there was huge Syrian anti-aircraft fire ... an F-16 landed in Israel and the two pilots were fine," said IDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Connricus, .
Earlier, the Israeli army said that the monitoring of the launch of an Iranian drone from the airport "Tifour" in the area of Palmyra in central Syria towards Israel, was dropped by an Apache helicopter.
He pointed out that the Iranian plane fell inside Israeli territory.
The army statement said that what happened was an Iranian attack on Israel's sovereignty, and that Iran was dragging the region into an adventure that did not know how to end.
The statement said: "We look very seriously to the firing of Syrian fire at our aircraft, and anyone involved in the launch of a drone was targeted."
