NATO announces maneuvers near the Russian border in October

The head of the US Marine Corps, General Robert Neller, said that the NATO countries are planning to conduct large-scale military exercises near the Russian border.
The general said the exercises will start next October near the coast of Norway and will involve about 45 thousand people and dozens of ships, aircraft and amphibious vehicles.
He also expressed his belief that Russia will protest against the exercise.
US military units have been deployed in Norway, the first deployment of foreign forces in the country since World War II, since January, as marines are trained there to fight in difficult weather.
NATO member states have decided to expand their military activity in Europe after the Crimea joins Russia in 2014.
