The Houthis, who control the capital Sana'a and Yemeni provinces, recently issued several orders to prevent dealing with the new 500-riyal banknote printed in Russia by the Yemen-based Central Bank of Yemen in southern Yemen, hurting millions of Yemenis who are already trading. .

On 27 February, the Director General of the General Organization for Telecommunications, Sadiq Mohammed Mosleh, issued a circular to the general managers of the branches referred to by Al Hayat by canceling the deal of 500 Riyals issued by the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden, Mansar Al-Quaiti.

The circular, which was based on the directives of the Central Bank of Yemen branch in Sana'a, said: "All your depositors are instructed not to accept any payment of the value of services collected through them in the specified cash category.

On February 28, Director-General of Postal and Postal Savings Authority Mohammed Ali Mirgham directed the managers of all branches of postal services, "not to deal with the new 500 riyals issued by the Central Bank of Aden," accusing them of "responsibility for that."

In 2017, the Yemeni government managed to print 600 billion riyals ($ 1.6 billion) through the Russian company Goznak.

The final report of the Panel of Experts on Yemen stated that the aim of the printing was to secure a reserve for the resumption of salary payments and to improve circulation of cash in the whole of Yemen due to depletion of supply of currency and demand deposits and the replacement of damaged banknotes.

The report pointed out that «in the territory under the control of the Houthis, there is still a working structure of a central bank with the presence of private banks and financial institutions». "The Huthis tried to solve the liquidity problem using more than one approach, all of which have failed so far, including the unfair use of the food voucher system by a person who is said to be Abu Nabil al-Qarmani, who works with the Huthis' approval for their own financial benefit," he said.

It also foiled an attempt to use 5,000 riyals of promissory notes printed outside Yemen after a truck was seized on May 25 carrying 35 billion riyals ($ 140 million) of those bonds, The legitimate government has not used this currency category in transactions so far. "

The international team noted that it had offered a YR 5,000 bond for forensic analysis in order to identify the parties behind the counterfeiting process as well as external entities and individuals supporting them.

He noted that the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control had imposed sanctions on November 20 on an Iranian network and a Fortune-GMB company owned by Iranians based in Frankfurt for involvement in the printing of counterfeit Yemeni banknotes Mentioned, explaining that the team is still investigating the issue.
