A member of the Baghdad Provincial Council ruled out the existence of political motives behind the popular demonstrations witnessed by some areas of the capital to disrupt the services.

Ali Hjul said in televised remarks that "demonstrations in the outskirts of Baghdad came to the awareness of the people that the current period is their voice heard coinciding with the near elections."

He added that "the demonstrations are not driven by or motivated by political motives," stressing that "we are with the demonstrators in their legitimate demands evidence that the government delegations visited them and the reality of their areas and confirmed their validity and does not stand behind any motives."

He pointed out that "we suffer from the scarcity of funds and allocations, in addition to overlapping powers," noting that "some powers are implemented only with the exception of the Prime Minister and the provincial councils have no role."

"He did not visit the Prime Minister [Haydar Abadi] Baghdad Provincial Council throughout this session, despite our attempts to hold a meeting with him on several files, including services.

Several areas in the capital Baghdad, including the Diyala bridge, Husseiniya and the factories have emerged in recent weeks popular demonstrations angry for poor services and delayed service projects.

The Cabinet formed on Tuesday an operations room in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers from the ministries and related bodies to follow up the basic service needs in Baghdad and the provinces and implementation of the national effort in ministries and local governments.
