iraqi - Sanctions Against Iran Split Iraqi Powers Empty Sanctions Against Iran Split Iraqi Powers

Post by chouchou Fri 10 Aug 2018, 12:05 pm

Baghdad, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran caused a split between Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for the repercussions about ordinary citizens.

Masum stated that it was very difficult for Baghdad to fulfill that first round of economic embargo decreed by Washington against Tehran, while Al-Abadi, although rejecting it, says the government will comply with it.

The acting head of government said that those sanctions only empowered Hussein's regime to apply repression, he said.

Based on that experience, Al-Abadi said that, although Iraq will comply with the sanctions, it does not support them.

We will comply with the objective of protecting our people, because we cannot separate ourselves from the international system and the world economy, nor harm the interests of our people, he said.

The first round of U.S. sanctions against Tehran entered into force on Tuesday, August 7, and covers the aeronautical, banking and automotive sectors. Another sanction will be implemented in November in the energy sector.

Good way to go Abadi... No wonder the US wants him as PM.
