Arabs in Israel organize marches to protest against the law of the nation state
About 1,000 demonstrators took part in marches in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest against a new law declaring Israel a state for the Jewish people, a law that angered the Arab minority at home and sparked criticism abroad.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the law, which states that Jews alone have the right to self-determination in the country and reduces the status of the Arabic language from its place as an official language, saying it is necessary to meet the challenges posed by the Palestinians to the Jews with regard to self-determination.
The law was passed shortly after the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel .
