US Embassy: Baghdad has not broken sanctions on Iran

The US embassy in Baghdad on Wednesday issued a clarification on the comments made by a State Department spokeswoman on Iraq's relationship with sanctions against Iran, saying there was no breach.
The embassy said in a clarification, Alsumaria News received a copy of it, "After reviewing the question and answer to the question and following up the subject with the Deputy Ambassador, the clarification of the subject is as follows:
In her answer to the question indicated Ms. Hahar efforts in resolving outstanding issues between the government of the province Kurdistan and the Government of Iraq.
With regard to the partial sanctions on Iran, she said that countries that violate sanctions will be held accountable.
As you know, the sanctions are to deal in dollars with Iran.
As you know, the prime minister said Iraq would not deal with the dollar with Iran.
So there is no breach of sanctions.
The US embassy in Baghdad said that "the way the Iraqi media carried this news was inaccurate."
US State Department spokeswoman Heather Neuert commented on Prime Minister Haider Abadi's comments on continued trade with Iran, saying "violators of the sanctions regime could themselves be subject to sanctions."
"You know our warnings about Iran and trade with them, and we will continue to prosecute countries for any breach of the sanctions we are imposing (against Iran)," Noiret told a news conference last night.
International and local media have widely spoken of the US Department of State's spokeswoman's remarks, citing a US threat to Iraq with similar sanctions.
