Crash the most expensive fighter in history and a setback for the US military
In a severe shock to the US military, hours after loud news of its first raids, an F-35B ghost fighter crashed near the Marine Buport Air Force Station in South Carolina before noon (1600 GMT) ), Friday, according to local officials and the US military.
The Beaufort County Police Office said the pilot, who was the only one aboard the fighter, jumped safely from the plane and was checked to make sure he was not injured.
A US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the crashed plane was a F-35B produced by Lockheed Martin.
The army or local officials did not say the cause of the crash, according to the agency "Reuters".
It is noteworthy that the crash of the fighter came hours after the implementation of the first air strike at all, a few days ago.
The raid was carried out in Afghanistan against a fixed target of the Taliban, where the plane was launched from the attack vessel USS Essex, according to US sources, on Thursday.
The F-35 is the most expensive fighter in the history of US military industries, and its delivery has been affected by many delays to make sure it is ready to fight.
The fighter is described as the future of military aviation. It combines the stealth and velocity capabilities of the aircraft with supersonic speed, agility and sharp maneuverability, and advanced sensor technology.
The F-35B, one of three models of the F-35 fighter, is the only one with a vertical landing force like the helicopter, and can take off from a much shorter area than other jets.
