The Ministry of Displacement and Migration has announced the return of more than 4 million displaced people to their homes after being freed from terrorist gangs, so far, while some 465,000 people still live in displacement camps.
"According to the indicators of the ministry, about 95 thousand families are still living in the general displacement camps in the country, but the ministry is seeking as much as possible to conduct a survey to find out the real numbers of displaced persons, according to the directives of the Presidency Ministers ".
He pointed out that "the migration and displaced people are waiting for the directives of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to deal with the file of the families of Iraqi terrorists in the country and neighboring countries," noting "to date no directives have been issued specifying the duties and the role of the ministry in this regard."
According to figures released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mid-year ago, two million Iraqis were still displaced in camps scattered across the country from the 5.8 million who left their homes in the midst of a war between security forces and a terrorist between 2014 and 2017.
Many displaced people are still unable to return to their homes despite the fact that more than a year has passed since the end of the war, which destroyed thousands of homes and basic infrastructure to provide electricity, health, education and other services.
