The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity confirmed that it is exempt from Washington sanctions on Tehran, and that it will continue to import gas to feed the power plants, and the import of 1,200 MW of electricity from Iran.
The newspaper "New Sabah" quoted a source in the ministry, that the termination of US exemptions from sanctions on Iran does not include the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.
For his part, said the spokesman of the Ministry of Electricity Musab teacher "Iraq currently imports from Iran about 28 million cubic feet of gas per day, feeding a number of power plants to produce about 2800 megawatts.
He added: "It is hoped that the quantities of imported Iranian gas from June to 35 million standard cubic feet per day to increase the electricity produced to 3500 MW."
He pointed out that the total amount of energy imported by Iraq from Iran is 4700 MW, which contributes to alleviate the burden of Iraq during the summer, and the goal of the ministry to provide 8 thousand megawatts to be the volume of energy this summer the highest in the history of Iraq.
On Monday, Washington announced the end of the exemptions granted to Turkey, Italy, Greece, China, India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan from sanctions on oil purchases from Iran by May, stressing that it is seeking to tarnish Iran's oil exports.
The White House also announced that Saudi Arabia and the UAE had promised to compensate for the shortfall in oil supply, which was confirmed by Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Faleh immediately.
