A soldier named as a witness in the trial of Edward Gallagher, a US special forces officer charged with a number of war crimes in Iraq, has been charged with murdering a teenage prisoner, the case for which his colleague was referred to a military court.
Gallagher, 40, who has been awarded medals since Monday, is being tried in a military court in San Diego, California for murder, attempted murder of two civilians with a sniper rifle and obstruction of justice.
The case took place in 2017 in the city of Mosul in the race where US forces deployed alongside Iraqi forces to restore neighborhoods of the city from a sympathetic organization.
Gallagher, who belongs to the US Navy Special Forces (Navy Corps), is accused of killing a knife to the chest and neck while he was receiving a first aid kit.
But Corrie Scott, who is also a member of the Newe Sills, confirmed yesterday that yesterday in court that Gallagher was the victim's stabbing, but that he had caused the boy's death. According to the testimony of Curry Scott, he strangled the teenager by placing his thumb on the tube that was inserted into the trachea of the casualty in order to help him breathe. He said he wanted to spare the prisoner the torture he was going to bring down, he said, members of the Iraqi armed forces.
Corrie Scott had not previously claimed responsibility for the crime when interrogators questioned him. He also denied accusations that he had decided to lie to cover Gallagher. Kory Scott is one of the witnesses who got the immunity.
Gallagher, who faces life imprisonment if found guilty, denies all charges against him. His lawyers say he was the victim of a "gang" made by members of the group he led, who wanted his departure.
The statements made during a preliminary hearing in November 2018 reveal that some of the members of Gallagher's unit were horrified by his actions and even messed with the sniper rifle he used to make them less accurate. They also fired warning shots to get civilians to flee before their boss found time to open fire. For many Americans, the accused remains a war hero.
