The head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ali Larijani, stressed the long-standing and deep-rooted relations between Iran and Iraq.
During a meeting with the head of the foreign policy committee of the Iraqi parliament, Shirko Miro, and a number of deputies on the sidelines of the 141st meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Belgrade on Tuesday, Larijani considered the recent events in Iraq as worrying. "The mission is to reveal its causes."
"Although the demonstrations are seen naturally in all countries, there are other issues underlying the armed and violent demonstrations, but thankfully only the problem has been addressed in light of the prominent role of the authority, Sayyed Ali al-Sistani."
"The growth and security of Iraq is also in Iran's interest, but some countries do not like the vision of a secure and stable Iraq. Since the beginning of Iraq's new policies, it has taken the initiative to confront it with terrorist acts," he said.
He said some of Iran's problems with neighboring countries are about Iraq and Iran believes in Iraq's democracy.
He stressed that the governments and peoples of Iran and Iraq have always stood by each other and said that hosting Iranian visitors in Iraq during the 40th march is a prime example of this.
Larijani stressed that Iran does not interfere in the affairs of Iraq and has no troops in it, adding that when ISIS attacked Iraq, Iraq asked Iran for help and we helped them.
For his part, the head of the foreign policy committee in the parliament pointed to the deep and excellent relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of developing economic and cultural relations, pointing to issues such as the recent demonstrations being drawn to violence through the activities of some in a virtual environment.
