The deputy of the parliamentary Finance Committee Ahmed Hama Rashid, the existence of an article in the Iraqi constitution impedes [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] corruption operations and prosecution within the Kurdistan region.
Rashid said in a press statement: "The lack of coordination between the Commission on Integrity in the Kurdistan region and its counterpart in the central government, as well as the absence of coordination between the Office of Financial Supervision in the region and the Office of Supervision in Baghdad, impact on efforts to combat corruption and waste of public money," indicating: "The Office Financial control in Baghdad is entitled to public supervision of the money spent in the region.
He explained: "The problem lies in Article 121 of the Constitution, which indicates that the Kurdistan region has legislative, judicial and executive powers, and this legal forms prevent Baghdad from accountability or follow-up violations of the region and files of corruption in it."
