The governor of Najaf, Louay al-Yasiri, issued a distress call to the central government in Baghdad, while warning of the solutions "disaster."
Yasiri said in a press statement, "I make the latest appeal to the federal government in Baghdad, and to the joint operations command and the army chief of staff, and to everyone, must send a force to the shrine of the martyr mihrab, because there are violent clashes between citizens and protect the shrine," noting that " No one can intervene and prevent this catastrophe. We have no power in Najaf. "
He added: "It is necessary for the government to intervene, in the rescue of citizens in the province of Najaf from this disaster," stressing "the need to send a force to the shrine to prevent any clash between demonstrators and protect the shrine."
