Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai said on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait asked a global consultant to prepare a study for the Al-Durra offshore gas field in the divided zone and to assess the gas quota for each country in the joint venture.
The development indicates that the two OPEC members are moving forward with the project, which was postponed in 2013 after a dispute over how to share gas.
Both countries need the field to meet the growing demand for gas to generate electricity and increase exports.
The newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying that the studies to be undertaken by an undisclosed consultant will include several goals related to storage capacities, production method, quantities and other technical aspects.
She said that studies "will show the best options, especially with regard to the processes of separating the shares of partners, whether they are from the sea or otherwise ... where the most appropriate method and estimated costs will be shown for all proposed solutions and accordingly the final decision will be taken."
