On Thursday, Minister of Agriculture Saleh Al-Hassani expressed his dissatisfaction with the entry of prohibited shipments of eggs and chickens through the Kurdistan region, stressing the need to tighten the procedures by border crossings and checkpoints.
The Ministry’s media said in a statement, “People” received a copy of it, (April 30, 2020), that “Minister of Agriculture Saleh Al-Hassani met with the Director General of the Organized Crime Department, Major General Khamas Sukkar Sarhan in the presence of the administrative representative, Mahdi Al-Jubouri, the Ministry’s Advisor Mahdi Al-Qaisi and the Ministry’s Advisor for Livestock Activity Hussein Ali Saud. "
Al-Hassani stressed, according to the statement, that "the local producer is in danger as a result of the entry of thousands of trucks loaded with table eggs and chicken, which enter illegally through the border crossings, especially the northern Iraqi outlets in the Kurdistan region," wondering about "the goal of the dumping policy that is practiced by Some in order to influence the local product provided by the plans of the Ministry and the slice of peasants, farmers and poultry producers, whose abundance has become clear by securing 25 plant and animal agricultural materials that have proven their existence and with a high flow during the conditions experienced by the country as a result of the spread of Corona. "
Al-Hassani pointed out that "the accelerated decline in oil prices reinforced the saying (agriculture is permanent oil), especially as the local product is characterized by being healthier and more reassuring to the citizen," denying the validity of information that indicates that eggs and chicken entering from the region are produced.
He stressed, "Those shipments enter the region's outlets by illegal means and are packed and packed in an Iraqi cardboard inside the region in order to pass it through official control."
The Minister of Agriculture pointed out that "the regional authorities submitted an official letter earlier to the Economic Committee of the Council of Ministers in the federal government in order to allow the passage of table eggs and chicken from the provinces to the region due to the lack of product in the region, so how did these trucks that enter the Iraqi provinces become produced by the region He called on all security agencies and border crossings, especially the Organized Crime Department, to "take new ways and mechanisms to prevent the illegal entry of agricultural products."
Al-Hassani also called for tightening "procedures for following up the leaked products through the outlets to the local markets and holding their traders accountable and taking all measures that limit their entry in the future in order to be a deterrent to all those who enter them," noting the need to change the mechanisms of border entry work in accounting and prevention and tightening procedures and according to legal controls In order to protect the local product down to self-sufficiency.
Al-Hassani stressed, "The Ministry continues its plans to protect the local product, support the national economy, and provide food security for the citizen," calling on the Kurdistan Region authorities to "tighten its procedures and control border crossings and prevent the entry of agricultural materials and products outside the legal contexts."
For his part, General Director of the Department of Organized Crime, Major General Khamas Sukkar, stressed "cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture in implementing decisions related to preventing the import of agricultural products in accordance with the prepared agricultural calendar and the extension of the rule of law, as well as direct communication with the ministry in order to cooperate in ending the outstanding files on third party import Legal, praising "the Ministry's procedures for developing the agricultural sector, supporting and protecting the local product to reach self-sufficiency and securing the foundations of food security for citizens."
