Iraqi customs achieve a 17% increase in revenues in 2021

    January 08, 2022

Mubasher: The General Authority of Customs in Iraq confirmed today, Saturday, work to return all customs points on the roads leading to the ports of Kurdistan, while revealing an increase in revenues last year 2021 by 17 percent compared to 2020.

The Director of Legal and Customs Affairs at the authority, Adel Suleiman, said in a statement to Al-Iraqiya news channel, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency "INA", that the authority achieved an increase in revenues compared to last year by 15 to 17 percent through the efforts of the general manager and staff in the authority.
Suleiman added that the focus was on following up on companies that owed many amounts of customs duties differences, in addition to focusing on all departments and workers at border crossings by following up on accurate detection procedures while following up on the rules of restrictions, which led to a significant increase in customs duties.
He pointed out that the percentage that was achieved was mostly in the last quarter of last year 2021, as the effort that achieved more than half of what was achieved in the first months of last year was doubled.
He added, that meetings were held with the Minister of

Finance and the Director of Customs, and a new plan was developed to implement it in this year 2022 by reviewing all customs duties, in addition to automating customs work, as an agreement was concluded with the World Trade Organization to automate customs work, which will achieve more From 50 percent of the doubling of the revenue received.

He pointed out that there is work to restore customs points on the roads leading to all ports of the Kurdistan region due to non-compliance with Resolution 18 of 2019, in addition to the presence of many unofficial outlets, stressing that "this year will witness an explosion in customs revenues after achieving this." .
With regard to the Al-Waleed and Rabi’a outlets, Suleiman said that the two outlets located in Nineveh governorate with Syria, work in them is complete and ready to start, but the problem lies on the Syrian side, where the lands of the outlet are in non-governmental hands and therefore work has stopped, expressing his hope that "The situation on the Syrian side calms down and work in these customs centers is resumed."
