Economist Mustafa Hantoush explained a "proposal" for the current year's budget, which he said is currently being put forward, hoping to work with it if the 2022 budget is approved.
Hantoush said in a televised interview, that he "does not expect that there will be new borrowing during the current year."
He added, "There are indications of a surplus of approximately 32 trillion dinars in the current year's budget compared to the previous 2021."
On how to invest the increase in oil prices globally, Hantoush stressed that “there is a need for a new form of budget, which is (balancing scenarios for investment programs) with three proposals. The first is to adopt a price of $45 a barrel within the current year’s budget to meet expenses.”
He continued, "The second is to adopt a price between 55-65 dollars, and it does not become a surplus there, but rather goes to a strategic project, such as the Faw port, for example, the railways, etc."
He concluded, "The last proposal is to adopt the price of a barrel from 65 dollars or more, and the surplus goes to cover other important projects such as gas stations in the production of electricity and petrochemicals."
