On Thursday, the Ministry of Transport announced the discussion of extending a railway extending from Al-Qaim district in Anbar Governorate, to the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean.
A statement by the ministry, Mawazine News received a copy of, stated that the Director General of the Railway Company in the Ministry of Transport, Talib Jawad Kazem Al-Husseini and his accompanying delegation chaired a meeting with the Director General of Syrian Railways in Aleppo to discuss joint cooperation between the two countries.
Al-Husseini explained: This came according to the directives of the Minister of Transport, Captain Nasser Hussein Bandar Al-Shibli. The statement continued, "The Syrian proposal was discussed to extend the railway linking from Al-Qaim through the Al-Bukamal area inside the Syrian territories to Homs and Al-Sharqiya at a distance of 270 km, and from there to the port of Tartous overlooking the Mediterranean."
The statement indicated that discussions will continue for the period prescribed for making settlements and financial dues between the General Company for Iraqi Railways and the General Corporation for Syrian Railways to find appropriate solutions and treatments between the two countries.
