National Investment: Licenses for projects near the airport are “horizontal”

The National Investment Authority threw the ball in the court of the Baghdad Investment Authority regarding the vertical buildings that were constructed near Baghdad International Airport.
The head of the National Authority, Dr. Haider Makiya, told Al-Sabah: “Such investments are subject to approvals,” noting that “all the permits granted by the Authority are for horizontal projects that exist on the ground.”
He added, "There is no doubt that there are approvals from the Ministry of Transport or the Civil Aviation Authority regarding the vertical buildings that were constructed near Baghdad Airport," stressing that "it is up to the Baghdad Investment Authority to answer the question regarding these complexes."
The Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee had previously opened an investigation into the implementation of housing projects near Baghdad International Airport and the construction of vertical and horizontal buildings, which would pose a real danger to the take-off and landing operations of aircraft heading to and from Baghdad Airport, in addition to the danger that these projects pose to airport security as well as The health of the citizens living in those housing units.
Committee member Karwan Ali Yaruwis said: There are 21 projects currently under implementation near Baghdad International Airport, without coordination between the relevant institutions, and most of them were built without the approval of the Civil Aviation Authority.
He warned of a plane colliding with one of these buildings and towers in the future, or of Baghdad Airport being taken out of service by the International Civil Aviation Authority.
