Iran calls on Iraq to open the borders to visitors and wants to develop relations in four areas
Shafaq News/ The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Muhammad Baqer Qalibaf, demanded, on Wednesday, the Iraqi government to open the land border with Iran in front of pilgrims for the fortieth anniversary of Imam Hussein in the city of Karbala, expressing his country's desire to develop relations with Iraq in various fields.
Qalibaf said during a joint press conference held today with his Iraqi counterpart Muhammad al-Halbousi, who is currently visiting Tehran, that: The parliamentary policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the 13th government is to develop relations with neighboring countries and the region, especially economic, political, cultural and environmental relations.
He added that one of our most important demands from the Parliament and the Iraqi government is to open the land borders for Iranian pilgrims to visit the holy shrines during the forty days. (i.e. the forty days of Imam Hussain)
Qalibaf expressed his hope that the Iraqi parliament will begin its work as soon as possible by agreement between all political parties, and achieve the demands of the Iraqi people, reiterating Iran's support for Iraq's people and government.
He also mentioned that we hope that the two countries will be strong and agree with each other because they play an important role in regional, political, security and economic issues and the stability of Islamic countries.
For his part, Al-Halbousi said during the press conference that stability in Iran will positively affect Iraq and the region, adding: We in Iraq seek to solve regional problems through proxy diplomacy, and we know that dealing with problems between neighbors will take place through dialogue and understanding.
He pointed out that respect for the sovereignty of states, the principle of good neighborliness and the protection of citizens' rights are among the foundations of the relationship between states.
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, arrived this morning, Wednesday, in Tehran.
Al-Halbousi visited Iran for the first time in March 2018.
Al-Halbousi's visit to Tehran was postponed for a month due to the health protocols of the two countries and the illness of the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf.
