     Yaqoub Yousef Jabr

and that the scarcity of rivers and rain water and the problem of high temperatures due to global warming are natural causes behind the expansion of the phenomenon of desertification, and the phenomenon of desertification has led to an increase in sandstorms, environmental pollution and water pollution.
Our Arab region is not immune from negative influences. Rather, it is at the heart of the major climatic problem facing the world, and one of its consequences is desertification and water shortage. While we find the rate of desertification in irrigated lands in Iraq 71%, while in Turkey, Lebanon and Syria 13%, 7%, 17%, respectively.
So the problem is bigger in Iraq and it is a problem that can be expanded, and if it worsens, it will generate catastrophic effects, including the depletion of river water, then the citizens will be forced to dig wells, and the migration of citizens from the countryside to the cities will increase, or the migration of citizens from the country to neighboring countries, due to drought and bad weather. The environment will be polluted, and the local livestock production market will witness a major deterioration.
What then are the plans of the concerned ministries to confront this phenomenon that produces several phenomena?
One of the best plans and solutions is to plant palm trees, and the goal is to stabilize the soil, moisten its climate, and produce dates.
The other plan is the technique of seeding, but this technique must be carried out in a purposeful manner, coinciding with the cultivation and preparation of the lands for planting plants, and then activating the seeding to irrigate these sprawling lands
    .
There is an amazing plan that can be turned into a tangible reality, to save the country from this problem, which is the construction of large lakes distributed among the desert lands and filling them by a canal whose flow starts from the Arabian Gulf, and pours into these lakes, and this desert can also be cultivated and irrigated from groundwater, there is a giant reservoir For water, and experts in the field of agriculture support the cultivation of strategic crops, such as palm trees, olives, pistachios and wheat, which enjoy little water consumption in places where there is an abundance of groundwater, in addition to that these crops tolerate environmental conditions and help to stabilize sand dunes.
Activating these solutions will lead to the employment of the unemployed, increase agricultural and animal production, rehabilitate abandoned villages and encourage immigrants to return to their villages, and create new villages in the desert to work in the field of agricultural
    and animal production.
As I said, one of the most prominent of these solutions is the establishment of a canal that extends from the Gulf, cutting through the desert, and extending through Syria and Jordan to the Mediterranean, to achieve economic and commercial purposes. Several purposes are achieved by its establishment, including moistening the atmosphere and creating a vegetation cover from forests and bushes as fodder for pets. At the same time, these Great Lakes will moisten the weather, which will lead to the occurrence of depressions that will contribute to precipitation. We do not forget that these projects will lead to the employment of unemployed hands. Will the current state adopt this
    gigantic economic project?
