On Thursday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, reiterated the need to resolve differences and outstanding issues between the regional government and the federal government.
This came during his meeting with Mark Bryson Richardson, the British ambassador to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement issued by the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
The statement stated that during the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Iraqi situation, the challenges facing the political process, the Erbil-Baghdad differences, the internal situation and the upcoming Kurdistan Region elections, the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga and the organization of its forces, and relations between Britain, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
According to the statement, the two sides agreed on the importance of the Iraqi forces and parties reaching an understanding to overcome the difficulties facing the political process, and the need to maintain security and political stability in the country, as well as emphasizing the need to improve the service reality in the country.
On the Erbil-Baghdad disputes, President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated that resolving the outstanding differences between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government is a key to stability and a remedy for Iraq’s problems, and the complexity of these differences is not in the interest of any party and no one will win.
The importance of cohesion between the Kurdish parties in Baghdad, cooperation and coordination in the field of combating crime and narcotics, the issue of immigration and migrants, and developments in the region in general was another focus of the meeting.
