An integrated infrastructure that the judiciary in Basra has begun to build, in order to enforce the rule of law. About 7 courts have been inaugurated to deal with criminal and personal status cases, while 4 new courts are being built.
Judge Adel Abdul Razzaq, head of the Basra Federal Court of Appeal, said that “we were able, in coordination with the Basra governorate, to build the judiciary’s role in the city center, districts and districts, the most important of which are the courts of Qurna, Deir, Al-Haritha, Safwan, Umm Qasr, Abu Al-Khasib and Al-Faw.”
Abdul Razzaq explains that "we have current projects underway, which are the courts of Al-Maqal, Zubair, Siba and Imam Al-Sadiq, and they will be opened before the end of this year."
The new court buildings will provide their legal services in the districts and sub-districts in addition to the city center, which will help in accommodating the accumulated cases due to the crowds of auditors caused by the overcrowding.
Ahmed Ali, from the resident engineer department, says that "building these courts comes to accommodate the increasing number of citizens and their need for them and for the services provided by the court in general."
The architectural style of the courts blends heritage and modernity. The “Al-Maqal” court was designed by an Italian engineer of Iraqi origin on an area of 7,000 square meters. The Abbasid arches represent the most prominent feature of the exterior facade covered with red bricks known as “Al-Jafqim”.
The Al-Maqal Court building contains 3 rooms for judicial pleadings and more than 60 rooms for employees and judges, and its cost amounted to about 4 billion dinars, and it will be opened at the end of this year.
