Despite obtaining the presidency of Iraq, the Patriotic Union seeks half the Kurdish share in the government
Shafaq News/ The representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Karwan Yaroes, said on Saturday that his party is seeking to fill two ministries in the next federal government, despite obtaining the position of President of the Iraqi Republic.
On October 13, the Iraqi parliament elected the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) candidate Abdul Latif Rashid as president of the republic, after a difficult period that lasted more than a year since the early legislative elections that took place in October of last year.
Representative Yarois said, in a press statement received by Shafak News Agency, that the Kurds' share of ministerial portfolios in the new government will be 4 ministries, including two ministries of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
This comes at a time when the Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed that it had obtained three ministries in the expected government of Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, while a ministry would go to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
The representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, Ikhlas al-Dulaimi, said in a previous statement to Shafak News Agency, that the share of the Kurdish component in the new government will be four ministries, and that the Democratic Party's entitlement will be the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, (construction, housing and municipalities), while the Ministry of Environment will go to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan .
And on the names of candidates for ministerial portfolios, Al-Dulaimi said. "No one knows it, it is the head of the Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, who determines it," noting that the names of the candidates will be presented this evening or tomorrow to the person in charge of forming the government, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani.
But Al-Dulaimi pointed out that the Kurdistan Democratic Party will send seven names of candidates for ministerial portfolios, and that Fuad Hussein is one of the candidates to receive the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She also confirmed that the person in charge of forming the government will give the Ministry of Migration and Displacement to the Christian component.
The Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, is preparing to present his cabinet formation to the Iraqi parliament, after he has finished drawing the outlines of ministerial quotas with the participating political forces.
It is expected that the Sudanese government will pass in the House of Representatives without any obstacles, in the absence of the 73 Sadrist bloc deputies who announced their resignation from the parliament on June 12.
However, this government is expected to face thorny economic, political and security challenges.
