The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, called for building a "real" economic partnership and a "balanced" relationship between Iraq and the United States of America.
This came during Mandalawi's meeting, today, Tuesday (November 29, 2022), with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski.
According to a statement issued by the office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mandalawi received Romanowsky in his office today, to discuss a number of files and common issues.
During the meeting, they touched on the important agreements that bring the two countries together at various levels, and the desire to invest in them to build a balanced relationship and a real economic partnership that meets the interests of the two friendly peoples, and an emphasis on continuing coordination in the field of combating terrorism and extremism, as well as cooperation in the fields of armaments, health, environment and investment.
For her part, the US ambassador expressed her country's keenness to enhance cooperation with Iraq, and support it in restoring its effective role and important position in the Arab and regional spheres.
On October 15, Romanowski confirmed her country's work with the new Iraqi government, according to the terms of the strategic framework agreement that binds the two parties.
The US ambassador to Iraq said, in a statement: “The strategic framework agreement will guide our relations with the new Iraqi government,” indicating that “progress in achieving our common interests is important for the Iraqis,” and pointing to the aspiration for “an Iraq that fights corruption and creates job opportunities, a stable Iraq through security institutions.” A strong government, free of ISIS, and a resilient Iraq to deal with climate change.”
