    Baghdad - IQ
The Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fayez Shawabkeh, said on Thursday that 18 countries will participate in the work of the 34th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Baghdad.
Shawabkeh said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency, followed by IQ NEWS: "Iraq will host the work of the 34th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union," noting that "18 countries will participate in the conference, including 14 Speakers of Parliament and 4 representatives of the Speaker of Parliament."
He added, "The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union, which was held today under the chairmanship of the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, is exceptional and not consultative, as a result of the decision taken on January 7 in Cairo, which approved the convening of the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee in Iraq."
He stressed that "the meeting discussed mechanisms for developing the work of the federation and the difficulties and problems facing it, especially financial and its permanent headquarters," explaining that "the meeting was attended by the majority of members."
He continued, "Another meeting will be held tomorrow, to prepare a report on our meetings and present it to the members to express opinions."
