Today, Friday, the Ministry of Planning announced a decrease in illiteracy indicators in Iraq, while confirming that the Ministry of Education's measures have contributed to reducing the illiteracy rate.
"The illiteracy rate in Iraq is about 12% among the population aged 15 years and over," said ministry spokesman Abdul-Zahra al-Hindawi, pointing out that "this percentage rises among women to about 18%, compared to 9% among men, and it rises in the countryside as well." to about 20%, while it decreases in cities to about 11%.

He explained that "these indicators are low compared to what they were 10 years ago," noting that "the reasons for the decrease in illiteracy rates are due to two things, the first is the high net enrollment rate in primary school to about 94%, and the second is the policies of the Ministry of Education in opening Adult education centers have contributed to reducing the illiteracy rate in Iraq.
