    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister, Hussein Haridi, commented today, Monday, on the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani, to Egypt, indicating that it discussed several files, the most prominent of which was the completion of joint projects between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq within the tripartite cooperation platform.
Haridi said, in press statements followed by (Baghdad Today), that "Al-Sudani's visit came as a continuation of Iraq's policy of openness to Arab countries and cooperation with Egypt, Jordan and the Arab Gulf states, and an attempt to create a state of balance between Baghdad's Arab relations and Iran."
He added that Al-Sudani is interested in accelerating the pace of implementing joint projects within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism between his country, Egypt and Jordan, and there is an opportunity to consult on files that will be presented during the next regular Arab summit, most notably the file of Syria's return to its seat in the League and reaching an Arab consensus necessary at this stage.
Haridi pointed to the continuation of cooperation in the files of combating terrorism and overcoming the obstacles faced by the relevant ministries to support the Egyptian initiative in the field of reconstruction, amid security difficulties facing Iraq that could prevent its implementation.
On Monday evening, Al-Sudani finished his first visit to Egypt, during which he discussed a package of files related to joint cooperation between Baghdad and Cairo, and through which he sent implicit messages indicating his commitment to developing his Arab relations.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and senior officials received the Sudanese and his accompanying delegation. Discussions also took place on ways to develop a detailed plan for joint projects and actions that Egypt can undertake in Iraq.
The visit to Cairo constitutes another stop in Al-Sudani's tours, which included Kuwait, Jordan and the Emirates, to confirm his keenness to strengthen the Arab dimension in Iraq's regional relations.
Al-Sudani praised the close and historical fraternal ties that bind the two countries, expressing his appreciation for Egypt's efforts in support of Iraq. He also affirmed his country's keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore mechanisms to push it towards broader horizons.
On the other hand, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his country's keenness to activate and diversify bilateral cooperation frameworks in the political, economic, commercial and cultural fields, and to accelerate the implementation of joint projects according to the needs of the Iraqi people, in a way that enhances integration and achieves development goals and continues to work within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Jordan.
Al-Sudani chaired the meetings of the Iraqi-Egyptian joint committee in Cairo, where they discussed the Iraqi working paper that was discussed in the preparatory meeting led by Iraqi Trade Minister Atheer Al-Ghurairy last week.
