    Baghdad today - follow-up
The coordination framework continues to mobilize to pass the amendment of the election law according to the "Saint-Lego" system, which is a condition for determining the political fate of these forces, amid continuing objections by emerging and independent political blocs.
A press report followed by "Baghdad Today" indicates that the coordination framework is optimistic about passing the amendment to the new election law, despite its strong opposition by the Sadrist movement, independent representatives, civil and popular forces and movements, amid expectations that the dispute will be resolved over contentious points in preparation for its passage in a session that may be held tomorrow, Saturday.
The Iraqi parliament failed during its last two sessions, the last of which was last Saturday, to discuss and vote on the election law, while the political forces seek to use it in the upcoming local elections (provincial councils), which are supposed to take place next October.
The "Coordination Framework" coalition insists on passing the law, amid pressure it exerts on the Presidency of Parliament in this regard, according to a member of the Iraqi parliament who spoke to "The New Arab" and refused to reveal his name, indicating that "the framework forces see that their political future is linked to passing the law; Therefore, it is seeking with all its might to pass it,” noting that it is conducting meetings and contacts to expedite the passage of the law, and through that it is seeking to push the Speaker of Parliament to include it in the upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives and to complete its reading in preparation for a vote on it.
Many controversial points are settled by law
For its part, the Parliament's Regions and Governorates Committee confirmed the completion of about 95 percent of the articles of the law. "The Regions Committee met with the Legal Committee, in the presence of heads of political blocs, to discuss articles, paragraphs and observations made on the election law," said committee member MP Sherwan Al-Dobardani, in a press statement.
And he indicated that "about 95 percent of the articles of the law have been completed, and it was agreed to cancel the elections of Iraqis abroad, but there are observations by independents, and the settlement of the (St. After resolving the controversial points on the law.
He explained that deputies "submitted a paper demanding the adoption of the (St. Lego 1.6) mechanism in the elections, which will be discussed in a joint meeting between the Regions Committee and the Parliamentary Legal Committee to choose the electoral system according to the same mechanism, but the nature of the electoral denominator remains what will be determined according to (1.6, 1.7, 1.9).. these controversial points in the law.
The mechanism of the election law in the "St. Lego" formula, in most countries of the world that adopts it, is represented in dividing the votes of the coalitions by the number 1.4 ascending, and in this case, the small alliances get a chance to win, but Iraq adopted the electoral denominator by 1.9, which made the fortunes of the entities Big politics are escalating at the expense of individual candidates (independent and civilian), as well as emerging and small entities.
The "coordinating framework" is optimistic about the vote on the law
In addition, the representative of the State of Law led by Nuri al-Maliki, Muhammad al-Shammari, expressed optimism about the success in passing the law, stressing, in a televised statement, that "there is a clear convergence between the political forces in their views on the law, and that the proposals and amendments of independent representatives and small blocs will be taken into account according to For compatibility and rapprochement between the forces,” a vote on the law is likely in tomorrow’s session, Saturday.
Independent MP Hadi al-Salami reaffirmed the rejection of the law by the independent forces in Parliament, and said in a tweet to him, "Our position is firm in rejecting the Saint-Lego election system in the proposal to amend the provincial and district council elections law. Hand in hand with the demands of the masses."
