President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed today, Friday, that Iraq seeks to obtain a fair share of water.
The media office of the Presidency of the Republic stated, in a statement, of which Mawazine News received a copy, that "President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid met, at his residence in New York, the Executive Director of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rola Dashti, in the presence of Foreign Minister Fouad. He added, "During the meeting, they discussed joint cooperation between Iraq and ESCWA in the field of economic and social development, and the importance of developing it in order to achieve the set goals."
He continued, "Iraq suffers from a lack of cross-border water flow, which has increased the rate of drought and desertification in the country, and that it seeks to obtain a sufficient and fair share of water, stressing the need to issue legislation and laws that regulate this process in the riparian countries." He pointed to "the importance of coordination.
" And joint work with international community organizations to overcome the effects of the water crisis and climate change.
