Earth News / The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities confirmed today, Sunday, that it has a tendency to revive tourism by providing tourism investment in Iraq, while pointing out that archaeological tourism is one of the aspects of active tourism in Iraq, and requires greater effort and financial allocations and specialized work teams in this field.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Culture, Ahmed Al-Alaywi, told Earth News, “The ministry, through the Tourism Authority, which is a body concerned with tourism affairs, and also in coordination with the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, one of the bodies also affiliated with the ministry, is working continuously to revive the tourism file in Iraq,” indicating That “this file has more than one tributary at the level of its development and at the level of its improvement, and it needs revival on the security and social levels, for this we are working today with a group of ministries at the level of the security ministries in Iraq and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as within the sectors of the relevant Iraqi departments. We work continuously In order to improve this tourism performance by providing all possible facilities, undoubtedly possible for those coming to tourism to Iraq, whether from inside the country or from outside the country.
He explained, "There is a set of controls and instructions for the movement of tourists from outside Iraq, and we are always working to review them with the concerned authorities and provide all the requirements and requirements for the presence or arrival of these tourists and their movement inside the country, and just as we do for tourists from outside the country, there are also details related to providing the necessary atmosphere for each Tourists from inside Iraq by following up and monitoring the tourism activities of hotels, restaurants and registered tourist facilities. There is a special department called the Tourist Facilities Department, and another department called the Tourist Aggregates Department. Follow-up on the work of these activities, and today we have in the ministry directed to revive tourism by providing tourism investment in Iraq, and that is what we have done by preparing an integrated file on the investment opportunities available to us through a group of plots of land belonging to the ministry to the Tourism Authority and can be invested in the best ways.

And he continued, “These tourism opportunities have been announced more than once through the sites that they occupy in the Iraqi governorates, including the Dhi Qar governorate. Sites are frequented in this sense, where tourist groups or what is called today can be arranged to visit these sites, including the famous Ur site.
There is talk about an international desire for a group of tourists to visit this site, especially after the visit of the Pope of the Vatican, His Holiness the Pope, to Dhi Qar and his prayers in this place. He pointed out, “As this issue was given a global dimension to this site, and today there are agreements on sending a number of tourists to this region after completing the procedures for providing special tourist sites and buildings to receive these tourists, and we are talking about the line of these plans that take time to be implemented by providing the requirements.”

Al-Olayawi indicated that “projects in Dhi Qar Governorate, and I mean by that tourism projects, there is a monitoring of amounts and these amounts are supposed to be managed by the governorate administration for the purpose of completing projects, and we as a ministry supervise the construction of these buildings with the required specifications and provide all the requirements for their construction on the technical level and at the level Follow-up,” noting that “all of this is the reality of the efforts serving each other and harmonizing with each other in order to show Iraq with its tourist face according to the regions in which the Tourism Authority operates.”
He pointed out that “archaeological tourism is undoubtedly one of the active aspects of tourism in Iraq, and it needs greater effort and greater financial allocations and needs specialized work teams in this field. From tourism and movement towards archaeological sites, and we encourage in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities to increase this type of arrivals from workers, meaning tourists from inside and outside Iraq, and we believe that this type of tourism activity was absent or was not at the required level. One of the aspects of tourism activity that is supposed to be a reason to increase the national income of Iraq, such as what is religious tourism, and we hope that this issue will be an opportunity to employ the workforce in all relevant governorates.
