    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

For two days, there have been extensive discussions on social networking sites about the necessity of paying attention to the tourism aspect in the country, especially tourism in Dhi Qar Governorate and Ur city, which has witnessed a great tourist activity recently, especially with the recurrence of negative incidents that tourists are sometimes exposed to.
Recently, social media circulated videos of a British tourist being harassed by a traffic policeman in the capital, Baghdad, in addition to the lack of organization to receive tourists, leaving them “wandering” on their faces, often in the streets.
Days after this incident, social media reported a story about a Greek delegation consisting of 6 people, where a Greek tourist from the delegation revealed issues she encountered while heading to the ancient city of Ur, until she described it as a “terrible day” in Iraq.
A citizen of Nasiriyah, Ibrahim Turki, wrote that “a tourist delegation consists of 6 people from Greece, their ages are over 60, including a woman who has a tourist group in Greece who came to visit and present her vision to send Greek delegations to Iraq.”
The delegation’s plan was to visit Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Nasiriyah, Al-Amarah, and in Nasiriyah they were stopped for half an hour by every control that received them and awaited the call from the security authorities. In addition, when one of the women asked to enter the bathrooms, the comments of the employees of the control were very flawed. , taking advantage of their lack of knowledge of the language, and when I went out I explained to the rest the filth of the health facilities.”

He explained that the driver was also impolite and scorned them and did not have a language and their plan was Uruk, Larsa, the ziggurat, Talo, the marshes, but they felt that the driver wanted to cheat them by taking them to the ziggurat and marshes and then to the building and not taking them to all places, but by chance a doctor who graduated from America found them He drove them to the ziggurat and he was the tour guide, then they stayed at the Sumerion Hotel.

For his part, the director of the Dhi Qar Antiquities Inspectorate, Amer Abdul Razzaq, explained the details of what happened with the Greek delegation, stressing that he was contacted by the main control of Nasiriyah and went to them and received them, and then they were admitted, indicating that the delegation bears some responsibility because it does not have a permit to enter Iraq. As a tourist delegation that did not come through a tour company, as well as the unprofessional driver who hired him.
He explained that with that, we have facilitated the task of their entry, but the control of the networks prevents the entry of tourist delegations after four o'clock in the afternoon, and the delegation had arrived at this time there, and the tourist police end their work in this control at three o'clock in the afternoon, stressing that in all countries of the world it is done The closure of tourist sites at certain times of the day, however, we facilitated their task after contacting the security leaders and bringing them to Ur.

Abdul Razzaq confirmed that Dhi Qar is witnessing an unprecedented tourist movement, in previous years we used to see a delegation every month, but now Dhi Qar witnesses from 3 to 6 delegations per day, which means about 180 delegations per month.
This large tourist influx, in addition to the recorded negatives, prompted activists and specialists to demand the need to reconsider and rehabilitate the Iraqi mechanisms to deal with tourist delegations, especially at a time when Iraq is still looking for a new source of income away from oil.
Meanwhile, the economist Nabil Al-Marsoumi revealed that Egypt achieved tourism revenues of 13 billion dollars in 2021, which is approximately equivalent to the revenues of Jebel Ali Port, which is the tenth largest port in the world with a capacity of 23 million containers annually, and these revenues are equivalent to approximately Iraq’s oil revenues for about 3 months.
