The Ministry of Oil suggested that the fourth agreement within its contracts with the French "Total Energy" group be concluded within the next few days, aimed at investing about 600 million cubic feet of associated gas and developing oil fields located in the north and west of Basra Governorate.
Oil Minister Hayyan Abdel-Ghani said in an interview with the official newspaper, that "the agreement likely to be concluded with (Total) falls within the agreement that Iraq and France announced their signing in Paris on January 27, 2023 under the auspices of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani and French President Emmanuel Macron, which aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Abdel-Ghani suggested signing another contract within the agreement within the next few days, which he described as “not affecting” the entry of (Total) into its obligations to implement the three contracts, “noting that”
The agreement with Total includes the implementation of four "giant" projects that represent the actual need for development in the country. The first and most important is the collection and refining of gas in all fields outside the Basra Gas Agreement, which are the fields of Artawi, West Qurna II, Majnoon, Al-Tuba and Al-Luhais, in which large quantities of gas are burned.
