    Shafaq News/ Kuwait started an international movement in New York to discuss the issue of the Maritime Navigation Convention with senior officials in the United States and the United Nations.
    Informed sources revealed to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai, today, Monday, that Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah began a short visit to New York (Saturday evening), the main goal of which was this file, where he met with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, and discussed with her the close bilateral relations and existing strategic cooperation. Between Kuwait and the friendly United States of America.
    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the meeting dealt with recent developments in the region, especially with regard to the merits of the ruling issued by the Federal Supreme Court in the Republic of Iraq regarding the agreement concluded between the government of the State of Kuwait and the government of the Republic of Iraq regarding the regulation of maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah, which was ratified by the two countries and deposit it with the United Nations.
    The newspaper quoted sources as saying, “The Kuwaiti movement will include a number of senior officials in the international organization, the United States, and European countries, especially since the agreement, which the Iraqi judiciary deemed unconstitutional, was ratified by the Iraqi parliament in accordance with Law 42 of 2013, and by the Kuwaiti National Assembly in accordance with Law No. 4 of 2013 was issued, and it was deposited with the United Nations.
    The sources indicated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also discuss this file with the Gulf group at the United Nations, within the framework of unified Gulf coordination to move on this file, especially since the Ministerial Council recently expressed its categorical rejection of any violation that affects Kuwait’s sovereignty, and its reserve of its right to respond according to legal channels, He called on Iraq to adhere to Kuwait's sovereignty and not to violate international resolutions and agreements.
    The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs had handed the Iraqi ambassador to Kuwait a memorandum of protest against the Federal Court’s ruling regarding the agreement to regulate navigation in Khor Abdullah.
    On September 4, the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) ruled that the law ratifying the maritime navigation agreement in Khor Abdullah with Kuwait was unconstitutional.
