Today, Sunday (December 10, 2023), oil expert Bahjat Ahmed revealed the reasons for the decline in the price of oil in global markets, while indicating that next year’s budget for Iraq will witness a deficit.
Ahmed said in an interview, “The decline in the price of oil is due to the contraction in Chinese demand for oil, which is considered one of the largest consumers, because it consumes about 12 million barrels per day.”
He added, “The other reason for the decline in the price of oil is due to the lack of agreement between the OPEC+ alliance on reducing oil production in member states, and only 8 members decided to reduce production voluntarily.”
He pointed out that “Iraq’s production reached 4 million and 9 thousand barrels per day, and Iraq’s decision to reduce takes place next month until March 2024, and this matter will lead to a deficit in Iraq’s budget for the coming year.”
Iraq approved a three-year budget amounting to 199 trillion Iraqi dinars, with a deficit amounting to more than 64 trillion Iraqi dinars per year, but this year no actual deficit was recorded due to decreased spending and not all amounts allocated to the budget were spent.
