The representative of the State of Law coalition, Muhammad Saadoun Al-Sudani, confirmed on Monday that choosing the new speaker of parliament will not be decided in one session, but rather needs more than one session in light of the presence of a number of candidates for the position of president.

Al-Sudani told Al-Maalouma, “Deciding on the position of Speaker of Parliament may require more than one session, especially with the presence of a number of candidates for this position, as each bloc or party from the Sunni component has its own candidates for the aforementioned position.”
He added, "The candidate Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani is considered the most prominent candidate for the position of Speaker of Parliament, but he may obtain the position after competing and voting for more than one session within the House of Representatives."
He stated that "the Sunni component has put forward more than one name as candidates for the position of Speaker of Parliament, as they will compete among themselves within Parliament to be the decision and choice for the House of Representatives, which will determine its new president to succeed Muhammad Al-Halbousi, who was dismissed by a decision of the Federal Court."
