    Nearly 10 to 17 million Iraqis are facing a race against time to obtain two types of cards to first prove their Iraqiness, as well as prove their eligibility for the possibility of purchasing and paying, especially at gas stations.

    There are only 50 days left until the deadline set by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Oil for issuing national cards as well as electronic payment cards expires.

    The Ministry of the Interior announced earlier that the first of next March will be the deadline for using the national card as the “sole” official document, as those who do not possess a national card and possess paper citizenship will not be able to complete any transactions in government departments, according to this trend.



    As for the Ministry of Oil, it has also set next March as a deadline to stop the use of cash at gas stations, and payment at gas stations will then be exclusively via electronic payment cards.

    In terms of numbers, the latest announcement of the number of national cards issued in Iraq and issued by the Ministry of Interior reached 33 million cards, out of 43 million Iraqi citizens, which means that there are 10 million Iraqis required to obtain national cards within a period not exceeding 50 days throughout the country. .


    As for electronic payment cards, the latest announced number of cards issued in Iraq reached 18 million credit and electronic payment cards.

    If it is reflected in the number of Iraqi citizens who are “eligible” to pay and purchase, then out of 43 million Iraqi citizens, there are 17.6 million citizens under 15 years of age, which means that the number of citizens who are eligible reaches 25 million citizens.

    Of these 25 million, there are only 18 million cards, which means that 7 million Iraqi citizens must obtain an electronic payment card, whether for use at gas stations or other types of purchases, in addition to paying fees in state departments, as the Ministry of Finance recently directed not to use cash in government departments. The country, all of which now own electronic payment devices.
