On Saturday, economic researcher Omar Al-Halbousi suggested that the US Treasury would impose new sanctions on a group of private banks and individuals with illegal activities.
Al-Halbousi told NEWS, “Private banks will be affected by US Treasury sanctions, which closely monitor everything in Iraq and which still do not trust the procedures followed by the government and the central bank.”
He added, “The persons specialized in combating money laundering and terrorist financing in the US Treasury are focusing most of their efforts on monitoring the movement of funds and the work of private banks in Iraq, which are still circumventing US sanctions, which warns of the """imminent imposition of new sanctions on a group of banks and individuals with illegal activities.”""
